Elf on the Shelf

This is completely off topic from what I normally write about, but the holidays are upon us & I’m feeling festive!

We introduced the tradition of Elf on the Shelf into our home last year & have had so much fun with it.  The kids adored it & I had fun setting our elf up different ways each night, getting creative with it.  Basically the elf reports your child’s behavior to Santa throughout the holiday season.  My husband’s family has always employed a similar idea that they called “peepers”, who were watching & would report any wrong doings to the big man in the North Pole.  Honestly, the “peepers” always freaked my kids out a little bit & I totally understand why!  So when Elf on the Shelf came out I was excited for a new, more interactive & fun way to go about this whole idea.

Our elf arrived on November 30, 2015 with a box that came from the North Pole on our front porch.  My kids were so excited for the delivery & even more excited once we read the story inside, which explains the whole process in a nice Dr. Seuss like rhyming fashion.

My daughter named our Elf Joey, however this year she’s insisting we change his name & she’s also exploring the possibility of making him a girl now, she keeps asking me. “So mom, how do you really know he’s a boy anyway?”…. With that in mind I picked up a girl elf to add to the mix this year.  That way each kid gets their own elf, Joey gets to stay a boy Elf named Joey & I get to have double the fun setting them up!  Here are Joey’s shenanigans from last Christmas.  I cant wait to see what this season brings!

The elf comes with a book that explains how the whole thing works in a nice rhyming fashion, very Dr. Seuss like.  The book explains that you can’t touch the elf; if you do, he may loose his magic.  Having a crazy two year old boy last Christmas, admittedly that was quite a challenge but we managed to make it through with just once major incident where Logan grabbed & ran off with Joey.  My daughter of course had a breakdown because Joey had probably lost his magic!  To remedy this, Santa sent a note with a bottle of magic glitter to sprinkle over Joey & let it sit overnight while he sleeps to help restore the magic.
